Default Miami?

Will be in Miami in January after a 3-day Nassau cruise. What should we
see/do? Where should we stay? Should we visit the Art Deco District?
Little Havana? Thanks!!!

The art deco area is a great place to stay and visit. Without knowing
the slightest thing about your interests and budget, its impossible to
recommend anything specific.

A few of my ideas from having lived there:
Staying in an Art-Deco on the Beach would be okay, but IMO,
better located and reasonable are the hotels on Brickell Ave,
between the Causeways - Rickenbacker (to Key Biscayne) and
McCarthur (to Miami Beach), and in downtown Miami along
Biscayne Blvd. The very best hotel (according to the Travel
Channel) is the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell (priced as such).

I would suggest a tour of Viscaya, a mansion in lush gardens
near the entrance to Rickenbacker Causeway. Across the street is
the Museum of Science & Planetarium, where shows are usually
excellent. Across Rickenbacker is the Miami Seaquarium with
marine shows. At the very end of Key Biscayne is the Cape
Florida State Park with a lighthouse and a beach that is rated the
#8 best in the U.S. by Dr.Beach.

The Miami Metro Zoo is an excellent cageless zoo at the South
end of the county off the Florida Turnpike, and if there's time,
a day-trip into the Florida Everglades, via Shark Valley tram tour
(West on U.S. 41 a/k/a Tamiami Trail, or the Florida City entry
(off the Turnpike). =R=

Could you possibly give some explanation why staying
at an Art-Deco in (South Beach?) Miami Beach
would be just ok? I have always hoped to do this
some time in the future and it does seem very
appealing, especially with its location so close
to what seems to be a beautiful beach.
Thanks.

I used to swim off South Beach almost every weekend when I
was a kid. So, its a fine option, but you're kind'a locked into a
crowded-beach-scene. Its a place to see and be seen. IMO,
Ft. Lauderdale a better beach, where I like the Yankee Clipper.
But on Miami Beach, I'd prefer a big ol' swanky resort like the
Eden Roc or Fontainebleau. They're just more my style. =R=

I don't live there, but I would stay in the Art Deco district if I
visited that area again. When I was there a few years ago, I had a
fantastic time there.

You could go up to Ft. L for the Tut exhibit.
