The town is Fort Lee, and you can get to it from either level. The
upper level has an exit directly to the PIP; the lower level you have
to traverse local streets.

But you are probably going to save time waiting on line for gas, over
navigating through Fort Lee. Another option is to get off the PIP at
the first exit. There are several gas stations on Palisade Avenue that
should not have long lines. You can then get back on.

If you are just going for gas (and don't need to travel the PIP) take
Route 4. It is full of gas stations. If you go about 3 miles you reach
a 2nd bunch of gas stations that will probably be lower priced than the
ones very close to the bridge. You can then make a U turn and go back.

The PIP is a nice road, but taking it will cost you at least a half
hour over better routes, because it swings way east. The best way to
the Thruway is to take Route 4 to Route 17 and intersect the thruway in
Mahwah NJ/Spring Valley NY.

This will take you past many gas stations, and is much more direct
(look at a map).

best,

Larry
