Kauai vs. other islands

I've been to Oahu, Big Island and Maui. How would you say Kauai was
different from the others?

Can you fly direct from SF?

Yes. When we were there in 2003, there was a United flight leaving from
the gate next to ours that was a direct flight to San Francisco. Our
flight was a direct flight into L.A.

It's beautiful, but I feel a lot less to do & lacking in great
restaurants, unlike Oahu.

But save a night for the Beach House near Poipu and watch the sun set over a
small bay. Good restaurant, good view.
