Well there is the obvious ones. Central Park, Empire State Building, Time
Square, Ground Zero. Maybe a trip on the Stattan Island ferry. Most of these
can be done in a day or two leaving you to explore the slightly less obvious
ones that you'll find along the way.

You get a great view of lower Manhattan and the Statue of
Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry. Another good thing about the Staten
Island Ferry is that it's FREE!! Can't beat that price! Somebody else
mentioned the Circle Line trip around Manhattan Island. Circle Line gives
you a wonderful overview of Manhattan Island - the guide points out things
of interest all along the way. I think you would enjoy this cruise and
would get to see a lot of sights.

Brian thanks for the bus info on another NYC related post. We are
planning a family trip (2 adults and dds age 14 and 19) over
THanksgiving, but, this time are trying to do it on a shoestring budget
since we have visited before and are somewhat familiar with the city now
and feel more confident. Last time we stayed at Doubletree Suites, this
time Big Apple Hostel. Last time pre-ordered tics for Broadway shows,
this time trying to score SRO at the box office. Last time Grayline
sightseeing, this time Ferry and city bus. It will be an adventure :)
Any other suggestions for free/cheap fun or sightseeing is appreciated.
Do they still have the parade groups practicing every night in front of
Macy's that the public can watch? Also where exactly do they blow up
the balloons the night before the parade?

Thanks for any help,
Shelly in FL

An interesting ride on a city bus is to take the #9 bus downtown from
14th Street and 4th avenue south side of Union Square-- it wends its
way through the East Village, lower East Side, parts of the sprawling
Chinatown, down through the Financiall District and ends up at Battery
Park City. If you want to explore some of the streets on the way,
you can hop off and resume the trip later.

As it may well be cold at Thanksgiving, sightseeing via city buses is
a great way to go.

"Any other suggestions for free/cheap fun or sightseeing is

Visit some of the immigrant neighborhoods - Chinese/Korean Flushing,
Indian Jackson Heights, Latino East Harlem, Little Africa on W 116th
street in Harlem, Russian Brighton Beach, and Arab Atlantic Avenue.
