| | Guest | Los Angeles We are planning our 1st trip to LA in February. We have reservations at the
Candlewood Suites in Santa Ana, CA and we plan on visiting Disneyland,
Universal Studios, and driving to San Diego to visit the zoo. Living in
Florida we have seen Disneyworld and Universal in Orlando WAY too much!
LOL...so it's time to see the CA ones.
Any comments on the hotel we'll be at? Is that a good area and close to most
everything?
Is there anything else we should absolutely NOT miss while there? Also, it
will be our 7th wedding anniversary and we need a great suggestion for a
really nice romantic restaurant in LA or around LA.
Thanks for any help/advice! | |

There's always Knott's Berry farm :-)

LOL. Skip 'em. Do a tour of Warner Bros. studios and visit the
Getty Museum. If there's time, drive up to San Simeon to tour the
Heart Castle, or drive out to Palm Springs to see what that's about.

Santa Ana is in Orange County. Depending on where in Santa Ana the hotel is
located, your drive to LA will take between 1 and 2 hours (depending on
traffic and time of day). Santa Ana includes some moderately nice areas
near South Coast Plaza, but most of the city is pretty grim -- low income,
high crime.

It's the same thing only smaller. If you're a big Disney freak, you'll like
it otherwise it'll probably be a bit disappointing. Then again there's also
DCA (Disney's California Adventure) right next door that's geared towards an
older crowd than Disney.

Well it's in Orange County, not Los Angeles county, so if you want to see
Los Angeles, you'll have a lot of driving to do. Though, it is closer to San
Diego and Disneyland than anything in LA, so that's a plus.
> Is there anything else we should absolutely NOT miss while there?
All depends what you enjoy doing.
You could go check out Mann's Chinese Theatre and the Walk Of Fame, spend a
day at a beach, take a ferry over to Catalina Island, take a look at the
shops on Rodeo Drive, grab a hot dog at Pink's which is sort of an LA
institution, check out Venice Beach, see what concerts are in town when
you're there, etc...

Well, there is California Adventures theme park right next to Disneyland.
I live in California so there is no point paying to see some faked
California, but you may want to.

I'm not going to defend DCA to the death, but if you think all it is
is "some faked California," I suspect you've never been there.
Besides, when Helen mentioned Disneyland, she was probably including
DCA.

Absolutely wrong. I spent a stupifying day there looking at faked
"vineyards" (with plastic vines, the horror!!!) and a "faked" bakery (at
least the bread is not plastic) and a really bad looking faked "Golden Gate
Bridge".

You mean like when people mention Disneyworld they are "probably" including
Epcot Center? Bzzzzt!!

| | Guest | Los Angeles Sure, but they are in CA and I've never been there before.
Just wanted some advice, not criticism.
Thanks anyways.

Sounds like some of alot of cities I've been in!
So, would a trip to LA suck that bad? How about San Francisco? Is that
better?
