Default Opinions of snorkelling in Ketchikan, Alaska

One of the potential activities during an Alaskan cruise is
snorkelling in Ketchikan. I've searched the newsgroups and the web
for descriptions of people's experiences snorkelling in Ketchikan and
have found a few postings without many details. I'd like to know the
following:

If you or someone you know has taken a snorkelling trip in Ketchikan,
did you or they think it was a worthwhile activity? Would they
recommend that other people who are interested in trying it do so?

How was the water clearity? When did they do the snorkelling? Does
anyone know what the water clearity is like in September?

Was there enough to see to make the trip interesting, or was it mainly
a lot of kelp?

Do you have any recommendations for a particular company in Ketchikan
to use when planning the snorkelling trip?

BTW, although my email address is dontreadsentemail, I'll be checking
it for the next couple of weeks in case people would rather reply that
way.

Thank you in advance for any replies,

Tony

I was there a few months ago (June) and went fishing for salmon from a boat.
We were only ~100 feet from shore and the depth was 300+feet. Now, I've
never been snorkeling,(I've tried, but my body refuses to inhale while my
head is underwater!) but I will say that the water was cold and clean. I'm
thinking that you wouldn't see much with a snorkel... not like you're in 20
feet of water and can see bottom.
