so please tell me what they are
biggest hassle about airline travel today is the security lines, all
agreed
an airline with minimal lines, almost just like it used to be,
therefore would get all the business
why does not an airline find a small airport near a major
destination, that is big enough to land their planes in
and use it for their? expedited flights?
set up their own terminal, own security?
and fly only those routes that they know will
be full all the time? like la to vegas
denver to la
la to sf
sf to sea
den to chic
la to chic
anyway the point is that it would be a full plane all the time
for a premium service without the security delays
what do you think?

Because Governments mandate security arrangements and
would suspect, perhaps rightly, that this was just a way
of avoiding its security requirements.
There is no insurmountable problem with security and certainly
no requirements for the sort of delays seen in US flights these
days.
Airports in Europe such as Heathrow and Frankfurt manage
comparable levels of security without the insane lines seen at
US airports. Part of the problem is that the federal government
was mandated stringent security requirements without paying
for them. At a time when the airline industry is losing money
hand over fist this means they'll implement them at minimum
cost which means long delays.
I ran afoul of this at SeaTAC lately where it took me over 3 hours
to get from arriving at check in to reaching the gate since a cutback
in federal money for security meant that the airport and airlines
were having to use staff normally on check in desks to marshall
people through the security lines.
Contributing factors are that unlike airports abroad US airports
were simply not built with security in mind. A couple of examples
come to mind.
1) Baggage screening. Most US airports have no secure location
between checkin and the aircraft loading ramp where checked
bags can be screened, hence this insane system of checking in
and then hand carrying your bag to a screening area from which
its ofter carried again to the conveyor belts.
2) Until very recently there was no requirement to reconcile bags
with passengers on board, implementing this has proved much more
diffcult than anticipated.
Then there's the simple confusion caused by regulations that
now seem to change every other week, implementing sensible
rules and sticking to them is the key.

It'll never fly.
The real answer is implement sensible security measures and
hire the people to police em, rocket science it isnt.

Have the same security lines as everyone else.

This idea is so good that some airlines have been doing it for a few
years, before 9/11. In the Philadelphia area where I live, the Allantown
Lehigh airport has some Northwest Airlines flights going from there to
San Fran and other continental destinations. The Atlantic City
International Airport is also becoming increasingly popular for this
purpose. Security, of course, is handled at all airports the same way,
but with fewer passengers, the lines are shorter and parking tends to be
closer to the terminals and cheaper than at major airports. | |
