Default NOVA SCOTIA

You have only experienced half the province...next time don't miss Cape
Breton. The nicest people anywhere and the drive on the Cabot Trail is
often used in car commericals...breathtaking!

Personally, I would drive there, and take the Cat back to Bar Harbor.
Bar Harbor takes you to Acadia NP, which is a great place in itself.
Driving there lets you take in the Bay of Fundy and other cool
stuff, but there's no reason to do it twice (there and back).

Do note that even when there's no fog in Nova Scotia, Maine and
most of the Cat route can be totally fogged in, and some people get
quite nauseous when they can't see anything on the ride. Plus, not
being able to see the scenery is a bummer. That's the only downside,
as far as I'm concerned. The time savings is good if you have any
constraints.

Well, I'm still trying to get there. I've been busy the past 2 weeks
with company in town and the weather has been awful (22 inches of rain
(56cm) in the last 7 weeks) and the rain has gone up the coast to NS
area.

I think I'll drive all the way up and could use help with time
estimates. Also I now will be solo so any known places to stay that
don't have a penalty for that along the way (aren't single supplement )
? Time is not an issue for me ( other than paying for food and hotel )
How much time to allow to see everything that I should see ? What's the
price of gas up there ? Any suggestions for stops/hotels/restaurants on
the way along the entire route ? Also, once you guess at how much time
to allow, how about a wild guess for food/hotels per day . ( I know
Filet Mignon vs hamburger would vary - just a ballpark for average
food )

From Boston up Rt 95 to Bar Harbor / Acadia Natl Park. If any coastal
route is scenic (like Big Sur) - I could do that / would prefer it. Stay
in Bar Harbor area for 1-2 days ?? Then to New Brunswick ( where to
stop/hotels etc ??) - PEI ( 1-2 days ?? ditto) - Cape Breton ( Looks
lovely online - 2-3-4 days ?? 2 months ? ) - then over to Yarmouth. I
sent for the info from novascotia.com and the " Doers and Dreamers
Guide" has a good map inside the front cover that shows all of Nova
Scotia . There is a lot of land mass there ! Looking at the entire area
with Yarmouth as the 9 o'clock position and Glace Bay/ Sydney as 3
o'clock, and PEI as 12 o'clock, I could enter from New Brunswick into
either Amherst area or go over the bridge to PEI: which is the most
efficient way to go to see the most of the country without back-tracking
? For example, should I enter to PEI and make a clockwise loop along
the coasts and skip the interior ? I know I'd miss Bay of Fundy etc -
but just an example.
Ultimately I need to end up at Yarmouth for the Cat back to Portland or
BarHarbor ( if it rained there on my way up).

Someone said that I need reservations for the Cat ? That will be tough
since it's at the end of the trip. How much lead time would I need in
July ? Is one day OK ? If so, I could just drive and when I get close to
9 o'clock on map - get a hotel room nearby and call in for a spot on
the boat.

Any advice appreciated.
Bobb
