Judy, when I've needed similar info I've often just phoned the Highway
Patrol (their number is in your phone book and can also be found on
the web).

Also, if you do a Google for "Indiana highway conditions" (or whatever
state) you can find web sites that list current highway conditions.

Aside from all the other sage advice you have rec'd, I just want to say
that crossing Kansas and into Colorado on I-70 is incredibly dull. The
one time I did it, we played tag with one other car for five excruciating
hours! If I never have do that again in my life, I'll praise the heavens.
