Advice needed: Traveling in Maine and Nova Scotia in June

My friend and I are taking a road trip from Portland Maine to Nova
Scotia and back. We have 6 days to do the loop and we really like
outdoors, hiking and site seeing. We would really appreciate any
advice on what not to miss? Has anyone done similar trip before and
has an itinerary of the trip? Is it really doable in 6 days?

I have done something similar. The highlights for me were Cape
Breton Highlands, Acadia National Park, and the tides around the
Bay of Fundy. There are many "lesser" highlights that I could
mention.

If you are going to get out to Cape Breton Island, you are going
to want to take the ferry to/from Portland or Bar Harbor in one
direction.

Todd, thank you very much for the reply. It would be great if you
could mention the lesser hightlights as well - it will help us plan
the road trip especially if they are on our way anyway.

True, 4,000 miles of coastline.

Definitely.
The fast roads are inland and you see little, but bush.
The slow coastal roads are the pretty ones.

I'll add the Lighthouse route, from Halifax to Lunenburg, including
Peggy's Cove.
Don't try to do all you've heard in 6 days, particularly the Cape Breton
Highlands route. The scenic coastal roads are slow and the locals hate
speeders on them.
