Living in Los Angeles, CA Hi all,
As part of my education here in The Netherlands I am required to take on
an (office) job for 6 months to get some working experience (coop
education). I'm thinking about moving to Los Angeles for half a year and
get my (extra) work experience over there. Unfortunately, it's quite
hard to get some good information about where to start and how to set
things up, so I was hoping someone in this group could provide some
information. If this is not the right group to ask these questions
please point me in the right direction
I've had several years of job experience working for Internet companies
in The Netherlands (as a PHP developer and junior project manager) and
am currently at the age of 22.
I'm currently scanning Craigslist.org on a daily basis to get a rough
idea, but I need information from the people living in LA itself, just
giving me the real deal.
Some questions I can't find answers to:
- How hard is it to find a job in LA? Where do I start looking?
- Is it possible to find decent housing for about $1500.- a month, not
too far from the city center?
- What are good neighborhoods to live in, what are the bad ones?
- Is it possible to buy a cheap car (max. $1500-$2000) and sell it
when I leave? How do things like insurance work over there and can I use
my Dutch driving license?
- Is it possible for non-Americans to open a bank account in LA?
- Are there any organizations who help people who wish to
(temporarily) move to the US? Any websites?
All help is highly appreciated.
Kind Regards, John |
