It's Amtrak. Expect it to be late. Be aware that on Amtrak a "coach
seat" is just that, it's not a sleeper and doesn't even recline all
that far. Don't plan on taking pictures--you might luck out but
usually I end up with a dirty, badly sandblasted window. Wear
clothing that can easily handle a range of temperatures--if you're
lucky the heat and air conditioning will be working, but don't count
on it.
The Empire Builder goes to Seattle via St. Paul, the Zephyr goes to
San Francisco via Denver--other than the scenery they're pretty much
the same. If you need to be in Seattle the Zephyr's not going to get
you there.
If you don't have a specific reason for wanting to take the train,
Amtrak is 143 bucks for two days sitting upright, Air Alaska is 196
bucks for about 3 hours of doing the same.
