| | Guest | huge drop off for car rental Vancouver to Seattle My wife and I are flying into the Vancouver airport on a Friday and want to
return the car 8 days later to the Seattle airport. All the car companies
charge around $350 for the week and then tack on a $500 to $700 drop off
fee. Does anyone know of a car rental company that does not hit you with
such a huge fee for a drop off in a city that's about two hours away?
Thanks.

Two hours and a whole different country away. Fly into Seattle, rent
a car drive to Vancouver and back. No drop off fee. Be sure to tell
them you are driving to Vancouver. I have done it plenty of times. | |

| | Guest | huge drop off for car rental Vancouver to Seattle The rate is for them to pay for two men to drive the car and a return
car back to Vancouver and return.
The way I would do it is drive to USA crossing, cross over pick up
second car return Canadian car across boarder USA location normally will
bring car to crossing or take a taxi to new car.
drop of car in Seattle and have them return it
it is more work but should only be $100
enjoy your visit

| | Guest | huge drop off for car rental Vancouver to Seattle We've decided to rent a car in Vancouver, see that city and Victoria and
environs. We'd return the car in Vancouver and are interested in the ferries
down to Seattle. Any suggestions? We'd like to see the San Juan Islands, for
example. For scenic beauty and a pleasant trip, would you go with a ferry or
the train. And where do we go through security for the train or ferry?
Thanks.

two countries. | |

| | Guest | huge drop off for car rental Vancouver to Seattle we did consider taking our rental car from Vancouver over on the ferry to
Victoria. However, the rental rate for the car went way up when we tried to
do that. (from around $25 per day to $110 per day for the car). So we're
picking up the car at the airport, using it for a few days, and then
returning it to the agency's downtown Vancouver location, with no drop-off
charged. Rented an intermediate from Dollar for about $75 for the weekend
and we'll use an upgrade coupon to get something a bit larger. We're told
that most of Victoria is easily walkable and that we can purchase tours or
use public transit to get to things like Butchart Gardens. If we need a car,
we'll rent one for the day in Victoria. It does make handling luggage more
difficult but I'm sure my wife will let me carry hers for her.

Don't what your budget is, but another alternative would be to take a
seaplane from the inner harbor in Victoria to Seattle, landing near downtown
on Lake Union. Now that would be a way to see the San Juans!

My wife and I took a seaplane from Vancouver to Victoria and return last year.
We were fortunate (yes, fortunate!) enough to catch a cloudy, rainy day, so we
were obliged to make the entire flight down at 750 feet, and back at less than a
thousand. At those altitudes, the sights were simply spectacular!
And taxiing into Victoria harbor is also most enjoyable, a great view of the
hotel, etc.
