Default Info about Vancouver Island and Inside passage

Hi to all,
I'm a italian photographer that would do a trip in vancouver island and
rockies to take wildlife and landscape pictures .

I've only 16days available and I think to spend 4 days on Vancouver Isl. and
4 days on the nat. parks.

I would to know where are the best places in vancuver island to shoot a
Eagle and "white whales" (you call them "assassins whale"?) and the most
beatuful places to landscape.

In detail I would know if the area from Tofino to Port Hardy is important
and deserve a stop (i think around Campbell river) or is egual (or not
different) to the Tofino/Ucluelet area.
This question for save a day to spend in the parks (Banff/Jasper)

Last question.
I'would like to go on "inside passage cruise" but i mut depart to Port Hardy
to Prince ruper.
Is good too? What's the best area? near Port Hardy, the middle or near
PrinceRupert?

I ask this because if the best places are near PrinceRupert, and i depart at
7.30 a.m. I'll in the best area in the night (... and I travel to get a
photos :-) )

If you have anytype of suggestion, trics or other..
I'm here.

Thank to all
Alex.

That leave 8 days. What are you going to do with those 8 additional
days?

Killer whales. If you want a guarantee that you'll be able to
photograph wildlife, you need to hire a guide. Esp. since you only
have 4 days. You may or may not encounter an eagle or a killer whale
on your own. A guide would greatly increase your chances.

As to landscape, try the Pacific Coast National Park on Vancouver
Island.

The Campbell River area is more difficult to get to and more
isolated. Your chances of seeing black bears are greater in the
Campbell river area. Tofino is more touristy.

An inside passage cruise will take a number of days. You may want to
check out BC Ferries (they have a web site) to see about their island
hoping cruises.

Eagles are most everywhere. In the campground at Parksville, that is only
about 40 miles from Victoria. You are not allowing enough time for the
area. Vancouver Island is big! 3000 meter high mountains and a 4 hour
drive from the East to the West side. Tofino is a large area. The town
itself is not real big, but it is a large region with lots of bays and
islands, and you may not see whales everyday. Since you will have to hire
boats for the day, or get on the whale watching boats you will be short time
for viewing, you will spend most of the time traveling. From Port Hardy to
Prince Rupert and back is 2 days of ferry travel. And an 8 hour drive to
Pt. Hardy.

Yes, off course :-)

My idea of trip is:

01/09 Milano (italy) -> Vancouver
02/09 Vancouver -> Victoria
03/09 Victoria -> Tofino
04/09 Tofino
05/09 Tofino -> Campbell River
06/09 Campbell River-> Port Hardy
07/09 Port Hardy -> Prince Rupert (inside passage)
08/09 Prince Rupert -> Smithers
09/09 Smithers -> Jasper
10/09 Jasper
11/09 Jasper -> (on middle fro jasper and banff)
12/09 Banff
13/09 Banff -> Golden
14/09 Golden -> Vancouver
15/09 Vancouver
16/09 Vancouver -> Milano (italy)

The question is...
If I'll take a guide (fast boat) to see killer whales, can I jump the stop
in cambell river and go in one day from Tofino to Port-hardy? (Tofino, whale
watching in campbell, and sleep in Pt. Hardy)
I'll do this to shift a "spare day" in the banff nat. Park.

I don't know if is better spend a day in the area near Campbell river or in
the banff n.p. ...
they are a very different landscape.

....but, in the other hand, I don't want do a big mistake spending a one day
more in the "wrong area"...
may be that campbell river panorama is very close to Tofino Panorama...

I don't know!! (help me...)

Last question
Where is the best place to do the (killer) whales watching?

Many many thaks to all
Alex.
