| | Guest | New York, Hotel Pennsylvania I'm trying to get current information about the Hotel Pennsylvania,
which is located near 33,34th accross the street from the Pennsylvania
Amtrak station in NYC. Some notes suggest that the hotel has been sold
or is scheduled to be torn down. Other notes have negative comments
about service, room conditions, etc. - Does anyone have any recent
information about conditions at this hotel? Or, if it's not a good
choice, are there other recommended hotels in this neighborhood at
reasonable rates, within walking distance of Penn station?
Thanks,
Jim | |

I don't know anything about the hotel, but I'm curious as to why you
want to be within walking distance of Penn Station. It's not a
particularly convenient neighborhood for most of the things tourists
want in New York.

--- And your opinion is based on ____ ?? And how recently did you, or
an acquaintance, stay at the hotel?

If you haven't already, check out <tripadvisor.com>. They have many
reviews of that hotel, some of them written in the past few weeks.

i've stayed there about a half-dozen times over the past two years, most
recently about three months ago (April, 2007).
you get what you pay for. i've heard that `Internet Floors' (floors that are
reserved for people who book online) aren't quite as nice as non `Internet
Floors' (i've also heard them called renovated floors). i've never had
anything but an Internet Room, and you will be fine so long as you
understand you get what you pay for.
the Hotel Penn. is fine for me or for me and the fellas, but the wife was a
bit squeamish about staying there. i never saw any roaches or bugs or any
effluvia or anything like that, but there were holes in the walls, the
closet had the ceiling kocked out---just general disrepair, but not unsafe,
IMHO.
and, yes, it is currently scheduled to be destroyed, but i know it will be
there through at least July, 2008. | |
