| | Guest | Greyhound to east coast? Hi there,
Being between temp jobs and having more time than money on my hands, I
was thinking of a trip to New York and Boston, going by bus. I've
taken the Greyhound before, mainly around the upper Midwest and out
west, and thought it was fine aside from cramped seats and the
occasional harmless but dirty weirdo. However, in my experience
something that might be just fine in Minnesota or Montana might be a
bit dodgier somewhere else (highway rest areas for example). All I
have to go on is the account of a rather timid acquaintance of mine
who claims that buses out east are full of criminals, druggies, and
the dangerously insane. I'm not overly picky (I once took an
overloaded ex-school bus full of small animals on a 10-hour ride into
the jungle on a dirt road), but if its like hanging out in the ghetto
I might at least want to know in advance. At the very least, perhaps
avoid a route with a layover in somewhere like Newark, NJ or Gary,
Indiana. | |

Greyhound tends to put their big city stations in doggy locations. If
you search you may be able to get airfares comparable to bus fares.
On the east coast I have had good experience with Chinatown buses
between the big cities.

You're right. There are only two differences today.
1. The bus is slower.
2. On the plane, you can't open a window.
