Because when the weather screws up the travel, there are not enough hotel
rooms available. | |

Fly the next day hell! Why not charter a jet that day since money doesn't
seem to be an issue for you.
I slept in an an Airport just once; and since it was Lod, it was probably
one of the safest places on earth (though not the most comfortable...)

Well, chartering a jet costs a great deal more than a room in a Motel 6.
Anybody who doesn't have a hundred bucks cushion in his travel budget
isn't doing a very good job of contingency planning.

Not everyone travelling by air is doing so on an expense account or luxury
vacation, A lot of them are flying out of necessity and just don't have the
funds to spend on a handy hotel, many of which are quite expensive.
Besides, their layovers may just be a few hours and they are probably
exhausted enough that they just need a short nap. I have seen lots of
people asleep in airports, but I never timed them.

Probably only marginally relevant, but I've had considerable trouble
finding a room in the greater Washington area without a reservation.
Especially near BWI. | |

Most people don't think of that. With the cell, on a busy day, you
will be on hold for a long time. Best to stand in line, while you're
waiting on hold, and if your cell connects first, you can just step
out of line.

There have been a number of articles recently about the reduction in
the number of flights which leads to a higher load factor and more
difficulty in being accomodated on another flight.
You also seem to be making the assumption that there are many flights
to a particular destination available. That would not always be true.

I've been in airports where they say the flight is on time when it
hasn't left where the plane is coming from and there is no way it
could be on time. | |
