| | Guest | Vancouver Island. Planning for 5 days on Vancouver Island. Will start at Nanimo. But
only have time for either the west side or the north side. So the
choice is between Tofino or Campbell River. We are interested in
nature and day hiking. Also trying to fit some island hoping on BC
Ferries. Which do you think we should do? North or west?

The closest we'll be will be landing at Nanaimo.

After all these years of lurking and receiving good advice, I finally
can help!
I live in Victoria, and I've got to say you have a tough choice there!
Both are great. Tofino is on the "wild" Pacific coast on the west side
of the island It would be much better for nature and day hiking. On
the other hand, the ferries to the mainland and the smaller islands are
on the east side of the island, so Campbell River would be the only
choice for island hopping.
Vancouver Island really isn't that big. In five days, you could easily
do both Campbell River AND Tofino - it's only two hours by road from
Nanaimo to Campbell River and maybe three from Nanaimo to Tofino.

Yes we know already. Been there several times, so we are not going
back this time. | |

Thanks Ed. We have decided to spend more time in Tofino. But we'll
definitely consider also Campbell River.

Thanks Ed. We have decided tentatively to spend more time in Tofino.
So we won't even stay in Nanaimo. We'll ferry from Vancouver then
drive straight to Tofino. We are still thinking about doing both
Tofino and Campbell River as you suggested.

No, you don't understand, Peter -- this is USEnet. It's pointless to qualify
your original question. You posted a specific question about Vancouver Island,
so now you'll have to endure hundreds of postings telling you exactly where you
should want to go -- whether you want to go there or not, whether you've been
there many times or not, whether you've got ten minutes or ten days, etc.
Not picking on any poster in particular, but it's the USEnet way. 8;)

Tofino. Campbell River isn't really north. Cape Scott and Port Hardy ARE
north. | |
