Default Marco Island, Fla.

Will be going to Marco Island this summer from Atlanta. Is it better to fly
into Ft. Myers or Naples? Anyone have suggestions for land based things to
do while in the Marco Island area? Not much of a beach person.

Thanks.

Fort Myers is a much larger airport with more frequent service from almost
anywhere. It's only 30 miles up the interstate from Naples.

The mean age on Marco is around 85. The best thing to do there, other than the
beaches or playing tennis, is to go elsewhere. (I am not joking.)

We were there last month, for the second time (business).

The Snook Inn isn't bad, as much for a sunset view as for the food.

No other place to eat is really worthwhile -- think of it as fuel.

Especially don't get fooled into trying Blue Fusion -- it's a joke, both for the
food and for the atmosphere.

Naples is the place to spend most of your time if you're not a beach person.

Fort Myers is larger, but is a nondescript dump of a city, not worth visiting.

Sanibel Island is attractive, but there's not much there other than beaches,
tennis, and golf either.

Sorry to bear bad news...

I agree, not much on Marco Island if you don't like the beach. Naples
is the obvious choice for things to do: restaurants, galleries, shops.
Corkscrew Swamp is nearby. Sanibel also has a large wildlife refuge,
plus civilization. Rent a bike and ride around the island. Greyhound
races are in the evening at Bonita Springs. Fort Myers -- which I find
quite attractive -- has the Thomas Edison and Henry Ford homes to tour.
