Default Insuarance won't cover trip from California to Quebec

I will be buying a car in California and I want to drive it to
Quebec.....too expensive to ship. I called and got a good quote for
insurance in Quebec but they say they don't cover my trip in USA. They
told me to call as soon as I get to Quebec. So now I am stuck....how
can I drive this car leagally to Canada?

Is this some special one of a kind car you can only buy in California?
Because if you want to register this car when you buy it, you'll have
to show that you have insurance in Calif. And if you have insurance
check with your insurance company to coverage in Canada. If you don't
have California insurance check with the seller to see if you can still
buy the car. If you are buying it from a private party then you may
not need the insurance. In any event if you are importing the car into
Canada you'd better check with Canadian custom about importing a car
from the US. Are you a Canadian citizen?

My insurance covers me if I take a trip to Canada.

You left out a lot of information. I'm assuming it's a classic,
custom, or "special" car, or you wouldn't be going through all this
trouble.. Talk to other insurance companies. Mabe try to make
arrangements to get the car into Vancoover, and drive the Canadian side
to Quebec?

Are ther any shipping alternatives? Many years ago, we shipped my
grandmothers '54 Vette from NY to Arizona by train.

For something this important you should get your advice from a
professional. Talk to professional insurance agents and see if they can
recommend any alternatives. If they can't, then ship the car or hire
someone to drive it.

Keep in mind that the cost of shipping is nothing compared to the cost
if you're in an accident without insurance. Even a minor accident can
cause thousands in damage; if anyone's injured it could be hundreds of
thousands.
