Yes, you can take the Tri-Rail shuttle to the Tri-Rail station, and
take the train up to Fort Lauderdale, then get a cab to the hotel.

Lousy. You probably want to get a car. Note that starting in
mid-December, rental car rates skyrocket, but in early December you can
get an economy car for about $30 per day.

careful to avoid any Asian cuisine.

The suggestion of an Everglades Airboat Tour was a good one. A lot
depends on your interests and the weather. If you're a party animal,
head to South Beach in Miami.
