Rotax 503 vacuum fuel pump The fuel pump for the 503 is a "Pulse" pump. If the diaphragm ruptures
the fuel that is pulled in will be pushed in on the next stroke. This
will only happen for one stroke as the small reed valve that allows
the fuel in will hold the fuel out without a pulse to push it in. Not
complicated, but works just fine. The problem is "WHEN" this happens.
If it occurs at 500' agl, you're ok. If it happens at T.O. climbing
50'agl, ouch. No gassy......you crashy.
