Default Rotax 503 vacuum fuel pump

I'm finishing up a TEAM EROS with Rotax 503, and am looking for more
information on the vacuum fuel pump. It looks like the vacuum line
would pull fuel into the engine if the diaphragm ruptured. I like the
idea of an electric fuel pump as a back up. It looks like the electric
pump should be in parallel instead of a series. I know you guys have
the hours on the 503. Clue me in?

Engine break in questions to come...

Default Rotax 503 vacuum fuel pump

The fuel pump for the 503 is a "Pulse" pump. If the diaphragm ruptures
the fuel that is pulled in will be pushed in on the next stroke. This
will only happen for one stroke as the small reed valve that allows
the fuel in will hold the fuel out without a pulse to push it in. Not
complicated, but works just fine. The problem is "WHEN" this happens.
If it occurs at 500' agl, you're ok. If it happens at T.O. climbing
50'agl, ouch. No gassy......you crashy.
