Default GPS for Ultralight

Looking to purchase a GPS Unit.
Do I really need to get the mapping unit or will the cheaper ones be
suitable?
What are others using?

Thank you
Tony.

Tony

Craggy Aero has several GPS solutions for Ultralights. Using WinPilot
VFR software. WinPilot VFR Software includes color terrain maps and
Airspace/Airport database and many other features too many to list.
The software can be download for free and installed on your ipaq. It
is fully functional in the simulator mode. To connect to a GPS you
have to purchase a license.

Hello Tony,

I fly Cessna 172s and plan to switch to ultralights. I use a Lowrance
Airmap 1000. It's excellent, but it's a luxury for an ultralight, so it
depends on your budget. I would highly recommend it if you have the $
but if you are short, it's not necessary. I'd suggest going with a
lower end model and put the money towards more flying.

The Magellan 315 does have a map page. I use one all the time. The map
page and other pages can be turned off and customized.

I used a Garmin eTrex and found that it was just fine for the local area. If
your flying from coast to coast, maybe you could justify the extra co$t to
yourself, but the little guys are great.

Blessings!
