Default gps in Ireland

Off to Donegal soon and I wondered if anyone could advise on setting up a
GPS (Garmin Vista C) to be compatible with the grid references on the
1:50000 Discovery series of maps used over there.

Equally and info, advice, anecdotes etc. about the area (we'll be based up
north on the inishowen peninsular) would be helpful.

Thanks.

Grid & spheroid, I'll bow to my betters, but watch out for seal level!

When I was last in Ireland the datum point was not the average level of
the sea, as I think it is in GB, but the lowest ever recorded spring low
in Dublin Bay in March 1882, which is about 14 feet lower than mean sea
level!
