Later on this year, I'm going travelling for a few months. I'll be
following the Summer (i.e. Southern Hemisphere) and am looking for
suitable footwear to take. As it'll be very hot in places, I was
looking at "walking sandals" as opposed to shoes and wondered whether
anyone had any suggestions or recommendations. As I'm travelling light,
they'll be my only footwear, so will be used all day, every day. Hence,
I'm looking for something tough and resilient, especially as I'll be
doing a fair amount of rugged terrain walking. Also, they'll need to be
able to survive the odd paddle in the sea occasionally. :-)
My local shop has some Brashers in stock, recommended by the assistant,
and I also spotted some curious sandal/trainer hybrid-type things made
by Keen in a local town over the weekend, but haven't tried anything
specific yet.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Oaf | |

I bought some Merrells from Blacks a few weeks ago and they seem very well
put together. Not given them much abuse yet tho!

Teva Terra-Fis are highly regarded by a lot of people. My limited
experience of the 3 pairs of sandals I've had is that they are far more
secure and stable for walking over rough terrain than the others which
is surprising given the minimalist looking strapping. (They give you a
nice tan pattern too). Sadly, mine are now held together with gaffer
tape after not all that much wear so I'm looking to replace them. I
noticed that Blacks had some Karrimor sandals which seem to be a direct
copy of Terra-Fis for about half the price. Didn't try them on but thay
seem a little softer and bendier on picking them up. I like the look of
Source Gobis too from noticing them in an ad and plan to find a pair of
those to try on sometime soon. I'd be happy to try another pair of
Terra-Fis in the hope that they'll last a bit longer this time. | |

Thanks for that info. Yes, that was where they broke. I never bother
keeping receipts for stuff like that and have no idea where I bought
them now but maybe the distributors AMG will be good and help me out
with a nice new pair. | |

Remember to choose one size larger to accommodate your white socks, or
better still take a pair of white socks to the shop to try them with. ;^}

Keene sandals are brilliant...I wear them about town ,over the Kinder
plateau and also for trail running...most comfortable shoes I have
ever owned...
