I'll answer for Doug, as he won't know. Many years ago, I used to navigate
on motor rallies. The rules governing the sport set a maximum average speed
of 30mph for any section set on public roads, even though may of the ones we
used were deristricted (this was pre NSL). On one event we were the only car
to complete a section on time (barely) and that only because the organisers
had had to end it with a few miles of A road, where my driver was able to
achieve 90mph.
