| | Guest | Scuba Diving: Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hi Guys.
Very new to Scuba.
Going to Sharm El Sheikh at Christmas (you may have seen my early posts)
will finish off the Padi course there.
I may want to pick up some bit and pieces of kit and am also thinking for
getting Digi camera, is it worth buying / any cheaper in Sharm El Sheikh?

Best Regards

you will have a great time. being new to diving adding an underwater camera
to you kit mey give just one to many things to think about. Just after my GF
open water course I had to take a camera off her, each time she tried to
look through it she floated to the surface. If we had been deeper than 3
meters it might not have been not such a laugh.
not knowing what kit you have. A diving computer would be top of my list for
a new diver. You have a mask fins and wet suit right !
just take a pot full of fun and the rest will sort it self out.

Never bought anything dive-wise at Sharm, but yes this shop is well known
and has been up for ages.
There is another shop along the sea front. Can't give you exact directions,
but try this. You are in the main shopping "street" lined by
smoke-and-coffee shops. As you walk down the hill with the sea behind the
buildings to your right, you come to MacDonalds on your left. Opposite
MacDonalds there is an alleyway taking you to the seafront itself. Just as
you hit the promenade by the restaurants, there's a dive gear shop on the
corner on your left.
As I said, never having bought anything can't recommend or otherwise, this
is to let you know there's more than one place to browse.

| | Guest | Sharm El Sheikh The one you are describing directions to sounds like the one next door
to Red Sea College. I went in there and the one on the second floor of
the shopping mall and found them no cheaper for most stuff than normal
UK prices.

That was my impression too - except that in the UK I can haggle! There being
more retail outlets I can pit more of them against each other.
Last year - about this time - I was looking to buy a Vyper. As it happened,
because of planned trips by various family members, I was in a position to
purchase this in any one of 5 countries - including Egypt and USA. The
cheapest was (roll of drums) the UK.
