Yes, you are bloody mad. Listen to the voice of experience, and spend at
least 2 weeks checking EVERY single thing that can go wrong, particularly in
the rig and engine departments. Change all the diesel filters, check the
impellor(s), clean out the fuel tanks, get up that bloody mast and check
that all is well up there, and above all check that you have an adequate
supply of drinkable fresh water for the trip. Rest assured that if anything
can go wrong, it will!

I speak from experience, if time is important to you, forget the trip and
get someone to deliver it.

Dennis.

I know sod all about buying big boats or crossing oceans. From a
layman's POV, assuming you plan to ensure the boat is both worth the
price, capable of, and equipped for, the trip _before_ you buy it the
most you can lose is your airfare in the event it doesn't meet the
requirements and you have to come back by plane empty handed.

The good news for you is that boats don't have caps locks.

That's right, anyone can just come and siphon out the contents of your
tanks. Mind you, it could be a "suck it and see" exercise. You could
get fuel or water or, erm, other water. At least keyboard caps are
labelled.
