Southeastern have free travel to Dartford, Greenhithe, Gravesend, or Ashford
for E* ticket holders (also free travel on Fastrack bus between dartford,
Greenhithe or gravesend and Ebbsfleet), but AFAIK there ais no through
ticketing via St Pancras.

I'm sure that's exactly what they are trying to say.

This is pretty ambiguous though. There are three cases to consider:
1. The traveller's usual London terminus is St P (OK, St P or KX). If
you miss all the signs and go to Waterloo by mistake, your ticket is
not valid on the underground to get you back to St P again. Fair
enough.
2. The traveller's usual London terminus is Waterloo. Clearly whether
the traveller heads hopefully to the former Waterloo International
before being redirected to St P or not is irrelevant - the ticket is
valid between Waterloo and St P.
3. The traveller's usual London terminus is none of the above (or he
arrived at Waterloo other than by National Rail). Like case 1, if the
traveller gets all the way to Waterloo before realising, his ticket is
not valid on the underground to get back to St P.
Thus it seems Waterloo passengers are in a more favourable position,
as it's to all intents and purposes impossible for them to incur the
cost of an extra underground ticket due to failing to know where the
Eurostars leave from!

OK... (clutches at straws)
What about a start point of somewhere like Blackwater? Served by FGW
only, but with the quicket journey to London sometimes being into
Waterloo via Guildford? Likewaise Warblington - Southern only but
quicket via Havant to Waterloo.

All Southern tickets outside the travelcard area to london St Pancras
are the same price as as for London Terminals indeed they are issued
as the latter by the quickfare machines and work the barriers at St
Pancras (and King Cross TL before)
This includes the any more expensive "any permitted" ticket from
stations Chichester and west therof which are valid via Guildford | |
