When I was Clerk to Elkesley Parish Council around ten years ago, a new
50mph limit was imposed on the A1 past the village, in an attempt to improve
access. I was inundated with complaints from locals that the speed cameras
weren't working - until their county councillor hit the headlines after
being caught doing 80.

Access to the village still hasn't been sorted and the 50 limit is still
there.

Few years back, in Jersey, parents at a country school "demanded"
police action on speeding in the 20mph zone around the school. When
the police took action, 9 of the first 10 speeders caught were mothers
on the school run!
