Default Merseyrail ban overnight parking at their stations

Noticed at my local station (Capenhurst) that Merseyrail has put a sign up
about 'conditions' of entry to it's stations. All sensible stuff about
behaviour etc but I noticed one which stated that "no overnight parking is
allowed at its stations"

Why?

Surely if someone is going for a night out in Liverpool for a drink or two
and then might want to leave the car at the station and come and pick it up
the next day.

Are Merseyrail encouraging drink driving?

Incidentally I only live 10 mins walk from the Capenhurst so no need for the
car either way!!!

Tim

This all started IIRC (alas the Ormskirk Advertiser archive is only
short term) in June when a passenger on a business trip from Ormskirk
with a through ticket on Virgin trains to London left his car
overnight at Ormskirk. On his return he found a penalty notice on his
car. Row ensued. On that occasion, I believe Merseyrail backed down
because there were no signs in the car park and hence would have been
on shaky legal ground if push came to shove. Hence today's posterior
camouflage by Scousetrains. Whether Merseyrail have consulted anybody
(DfT,ATOC,ORR etc.) is not known. Railwatch would probably be
interested if you are minded to make a complaint and of course Louise
Ellman, Chairman of the House of Commons Transport Committee is a
Merseyside MP.

Although at Capenhurst the nearest houses are about half a mile away.

I should imagine that the local yobs would have the wheels and the
stereo, Merseyrail would run off with the rest and then their car park
managment firm would have the audacity to send you a penalty charge
notice in the post...

Default Merseyrail ban overnight parking at their stations ( and other parking issues)

People used to park in all kinds of non-bay, but not obstructive, places
in Royston station carpark (especially the north side), then one day in
around 2002 they started ticketing people without warning. That was a
pay-and display, and they were ticketing people who had paid. It's not
clear to me if the Chester carpark in the story is free or pay.

I used to park at Tonbridge (south eastern) for a week of night
shifts, arrived about 21:40, left about 12:00 (7x12 hour night
shifts). Saw my car on the news when the Tonbridge cash robbery
happened :)

I Bought a 7 day car park season, plus one day extention, and a 7 day
train ticket, plus an extra single off peak (shiftism by the railway
-- costs more to do 7 off peak shifts than 7 peak shifts)
