Default FGW Refurbished HSTs was it a dream??

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was planned for the FGW
refurbished HSTs to be of two types. The first type was to be high
density with no buffets and be deployed on "local " services such as
Paddington to Bristol. The second type was to retain buffets and a good
number of tables and be deployed on services to Cornwall.
My trips this summer to Devon and Cornwall seem to constantly throw up
HSTs with a buffet but with high density "cattle truck" type seating
with many seats having no window.
So the visual pleasures of the trip are now lost for many passengers.

Was this all a dream ?

Both types are out and about. The low density sets only have 2 more
tables per coach than the high density set (4 vs 2).

I'm not sure there is much pattern to their usage though.

I was under the impression that 'low density' would mean more than a
couple of extra tables per coach, but seemingly not.

I recommend SWT 159s or FGW 142s for sections such as the sea wall at
Dawlish. FGW missed a marketing trick when they introduced the latter
- they don't come much more panoramic than pacer windows in this
country.

If you like tables, windows and seat cushions you'll need to go first
class, or use SWT from Waterloo in future. It really grates to see
good trains trashed and the leisure market ignored (wither the family
carriage) in order to satisfy Reading commuters. Ho hum...

In the North East, the HSE has been handing out free salt shakers, to
fish and chip shops, that have only half the number of holes that are
standard.

The chip shops must then use the new shakers on health and safety
grounds.

After this (successful!!!!) trail the free shakers are now to be
rolled out nationwide.
