Default Cheadle Hulme station "refurbishment"

The message <b6efe9a6-4f94-4ab2-ad00-d486ec854721@73g2000hsx..com>
from stevesusenet@ contains these words:

> Last month, the booking office was closed, apparently for
> redecoration.

At Frodsham, the "closed for redecoration" indicated that the station
would become an unstaffed halt within a month of "re-opening following
redecoration"...

Similar projects are ongoing at Denham and Orpington. Whilst I don't doubt
the provision of lifts etc. will greatly improve the access to stations by
those with mobility problems would it not be more cost effective to provide
a free taxi service to those with mobilty problems to the nearest easily
accessible station? The work at Denham is reported to cost £3m.

Cheadle Hulme is a particularly difficult station for
people with pushchairs, cyclists, and people who are
just 'getting on a bit.' The stairs are very steep,
especially to the down line from Crewe. The lifts will
be very welcome to many.

A free taxi service is just no substitute for access to
a station. You'd obviously have to have to book it in
advance, for one thing.

People slip and fall on ramps. I've seen it again and
again. Deansgate is a particular black spot.
