Some ex-GNER people, perhaps (on the basis that any company tends to be
located where the founders live).

Though the trains would seemingly not stop in Donny. | |

That's not especially relevant (although some ToCs, and BR before it, do
have "previous form" for capriciously stopping trains at stations where
senior managers live).

No, sure, just thought it was an interesting point.
Any particular TOCs who are notable current 'offenders' in this
regard? Or previous BR managers who gained a notorious reputation for
this? | |

Why can't they do the 125mph tracks at night?

There was some recent talk about new services from Frome to London being
suspiciously convenient for a FGW senior manager's commute.
Such things happen in the advertising industry too. It's well known that
many advertising agencies that start a major "Poster" campaign will
always arrange for sites on the client CEO's route to work to be
covered, irrespective of any other criteria for where they might think
the posters would be best displayed.
Personal experience is a wonderful thing. It was reported on the TV news
this morning that Alastair Darling only realised the problem with petrol
prices when he had to fill up his own car when on holiday - while in
London he would have been obliviously whisked everywhere in a paid-for
ministerial car.

Nothing new. Didn't the GWR run a broad gauge train from Windsor to
Paddington specifically for Sir Daniel Gooch, when everything else at the
London end (apart from through trains to Devon and Cornwall) was standard
gauge?

Whatever for ?
So that you can whinge about more line closures and more possessions
for engineering works or slower moving instrument trains in section or
manually doing the job with people on the track (in turn probably
closing both tracks not just one).
Modern railways need every bit as much high-er speed test trains to
revenue earning trains. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it is near
essetnial to have engineers tests trains of similar capability to
operators trains where large fleets are concerned.
