Anyone been there since they altered the shelf layout ?

Am I the only one that thinks the new layout is muddled and confused
w.r.t. subject and badly labelled,
and that the choice of overseas books is much much reduced ?

To be fair the old layout wasn't what you would call great. I don't
particularly like the new layout as it doesn't feel "logical" or to have
a sensible flow between subjects. It's also quite cramped.

However I think we should be grateful to have such specialist shops in
the first place - they seem to be very much a UK invention. Try finding
an equivalent in Paris!

As for the overseas books I think this is difficult. They are usually
very expensive and tastes in the UK can be very diverse so I'd guess
it's a difficult business to select stock that they know they can sell.
Motor Books carried a lot of foreign stuff but hardly any of it sold -
given general pressures on booksellers these days it cannot be economic
to hold large stocks of high priced books that you may never sell.

The one series of foreign books I think is particularly commendable is
that from Schwandl publishing but then I'm interested in trams and
metros so their series is ideal as well as being very well produced and
reasonable value for money (for a minority interest publication).

LA VIE DU RAIL, 11, rue de Milan, 75009 Paris near St Lazare is a good
start.

It is true the fornt door is in a courtyard off that road, but it is
plated on the gateway to the yard, I found it first time no problem.

These are, of course, stocked by Platform 5 Mail Order department, as are
many other foreign transport books (PLUG!)
