Spare a thought for the poor folk on the 11:06 Virgin Train from Glasgow to London today. This is expected just over 4 hours late into Rugby. The 12:05 from Glasgow to London is expected over 3 hours late into Rugby, and the 13:06 from Glasgow is expted over 2 hours late into Rugby.
I wonder if any of the passengers took advantage of the complimentary non-alcoholic drinks which should be offered to all passengers if the train is delayed by an hour or more (according to the Virgin Trains Passengers Charter).

Doesn't that mean they'll all get there at the same time? No doubt
they'll claim that they're all the 1506 running on time.

Better than Jet2.com. Two hour delay earlier this week sat on a 737
due to a navigation computer fault and they offered a half share of
500ml bottle of water per person! And the air con was switched off
when the captain decided to top up with fuel so we baked in the heat
of Budapest. Grrrrrrr | |

Let's be fair to Virgin here, the delays have been caused by Notwork
Rail incompetence again. Engineering overrun in the Lake District. Not
quite sure what was causing the delays between Warrington and Crewe
though. Nothing on NRE site. How much more has to happen for someone
to take punitive action against NR and their seeming inability to do
what they get billions of £££'s of public money for? Messrs Mc
Allister, Coucher et al really need to take a long hard look at
themselves. If they can manage to take their snouts out of the trough
for long enough that is...

Overrunning engineering works between Lancaster and Carlisle, the
first mentioned train looking to been held at Oxenholme according to
liive train arrivals and departures. With the three Glasgw Euston
trains affected was the Edinbrgh Birmingham which was started from
Carstairs.
I was at Crewe yesterday afternoon and throughout the time there was
no passenger traffic on the main line to Stafford, all routed via
North Staffs line and Stoke. The down slow from Stafford to Crewe did
however sport a 66 on the Shotton steel diverted because its normal
route was also subject to an engineering possestion, follow by a light
57/3.
Some time about 14:45 hours there was a train problem in the Alsager
area thankfully not on the single section from Crewe which held the
15:53 London departure ex Liverpool plus 16:16 to Derby. Passengers
for the 11:06 Glasgow, 14:27 Crewe to London were directed to the
14:59 to Derby and change at Stoke.
Northbound trains from the North Staffs line were about on time and
not affected, but we first heard of the problem in the Alsager area
after 14:59 Derby plus 60054 on a loaded ballast train, followed by
two EWS 60's LE had left.
This was in addition to the problem with the Glasgow Euston trains,
the first one reported 3hrs 27Mins late on the platform at Crewe.

Further to my message above a friend has posted detail of what
happened at Alsager as pasted below
60054 failed just outside Alsager this afternoon.
Sods Law as the Crewe-Stafford line was on a booked blockage so the
whole of the WCML was being diverted via Alsager.
Somehow they managed to get 2 sheds onto the rear of 60054's train
(15 loaded HQAs+8 Seacows) and pushed it into Alsager goods loop.
They waited while 8 delayed up trains went past before the 2 sheds
(66173+66002) ran onto the front of the train.
66173 then detached itself from the front and went off LE to BS
leaving
66002 to struggle out of the loop with the dead 60 plus loaded ballast
train
after another 2 Pendos had passed.
Earlier in the day 66173 had been paired with 66196 when it went
through
Alsager T&T just 4 minutes behind 66052/185 T&T on another engineers
train.

I've been delayed over 8 hours on Virgin before, then taken on two coaches
the entire distance from Wigan to London, arriving at Euston at 3:30 AM,
where there were no staff, and no complimentary taxis as promised at
Stafford.
And then, having paid £50 for my own cab, there was absolutely no
compensation forthcoming.

I wopuld have taken this up with Passenger Focus - they're very good
in dealing with TOCs on this type of problem.
