Can't help, but can I have one last try at asking you if you are ever
going to update your RCH map website?

Just an idea, could it be Weekday Cross Junction Nottingham?

No, for (at least) the following reasons:
At Weekday Cross, the diverging route is on the other side.
The surroundings are much more northern mill town than Nottingham.
I think the scene is purely imaginary.

The train is the short-lived 04.50 SO Bournemouth - Pontefract
Baghill, as evidenced by the two through carriages from Todpuddle S&D.
B16 hauled throughout.
OTOH, it could just be a fantasy.

| | Guest | Painting of mystery .uk location I got this reply so far from someone knowing the area.
"Having looked at the image it's certainly reminiscent of the Oldham
Rochdale line. Checking it against at my old OS map of Manchester I can't
identify any junction in the Middleton, Oldham, Rochdale area that had the
characteristics of this picture. "

Has this comment through the list
"Husband's comment was. 'Why are there no names shown on the mills? If this
were a 'real' picture they would be picked out in white and it would be
possible to identify the place'. But he also thought it looked vaguely
based on Oldham.
Janice "
You do tend to usually find names prominently on mills in Lancashire, could
it indicate that the painter was not from the area?

"I showed this painting to my artist husband who said he was fairly sure it
was a composite picture, pointing out the `cross` created by the railway
and the housing which is a traditional artistic device.
best wishes

Well, it's interesting that the artist has chosen to put the sun at
about 7 or 8 o'clock (if the viewer is looking at 12.00 o'clock.) All
the shadows are thus going across the picture - except that the loco
is lit like it would be in a film - as if there were a giant mirror on
the other side of the viaduct, illuminating the loco with the
reflection.
The light inside the left hand arches also looks somwhat false - the
rest appears consistent in tems of light.
Me, I still maintain its Midsomer Norton.
But I've heard it's by Pivo Peters, Ivo's half Czechoslovak, litle-
known, usually inebriated, half-brother :)
