AIUI the intention for the IEP is that the permitted speed (non-tilt) on the
fast lines between Euston and Hanslope will be increased to 125 mph where
possible. On this stretch tilt only gives a minute or two advantage. Further
north it would be much more difficult to increase the non-tilt speed above
110 mph, and tilt gives a much bigger advantage.

I think I remember them announcing that 'Grand Union' (along with the
original top man) was being split off from 'Grand Central' to research
further opportunities. So Grand Northern will possibly be the intended
operating name, albeit we'll probably never see it...

The message <l3r1845h21i4aqfmjrdq97lhtjl772nj16@********>
from M Platting contains these words:

The letter shows a timing of 220 minutes. Bradford Forster Square to
Kings Cross is 156 minutes on the direct service, 180ish minutes for
most services (and the direct service includes a fairly leisurely
reverse call at Leeds).

Who on earth wants to take an hour longer for the pleasure of going to
Euston??

Best not mention the 5-car Voyagers that Virgin use out of Euston then?
