OK, to help us get the joke, was it Reading General or Reading West?

I presume Platform 6 is a bay.

Regards

Yes, platform 6 at Reading is a bay.

Reading General, although the correct name of the station is now simply
Reading (Reading West only has two platforms). And yes, it is a bay. The
announcement should have gone on to tell you to stand back from the other
side of the train - it's a bay with a platform face both sides, but they
only unlock the doors one side.

Well, if it wasn't going to stop I think standing well back would be a
very good idea :)
