That comes a cross as a rather nutty anorak driven approach.

Are you going to request steam traction and vacuum brakes as well ?

I think we should covert the Altrincham line back to 1,500v dc at the
same time!

To get news coverage on radio,TV and press you need and angle. They
are not interested in timetables. If however you point out that in
1938 we had a steam train which would give us a faster service that
2009 after £8billion has been spent it does make a point. The second
point is that Virgin wish to keep a monopoly on providing Nuneaton
with direct trains to Euston but choses not to betweem 8:45 and 21:03.
I wish to open the door for open access operators to stop at Nuneaton
or even London Midlands to offer trains via the direct route.

I can see his point. Sometimes comparison with steam timings can be quite
effective. I have some LMS TTs of the period and will see what I can do
later.

If Moderation of Competition Rules applied to London - Northampton Virgin
can't still have a monopoly, because London Midland are running trains on
the route, and will offer an hourly service from December. An Open Access
Operator would have to show that he could provide a service, it would mainly
generate new business rather than abstrtact passengers from existing
franchises, and that paths are available. I suspect on the latter point he
would have to decide whether he was going to use 100 mph stock and run via
Northampton and the Slow Line (and so at best matching London Midland
journey times) or use 125 mph tilting stock when he might get paths via
Weedon and the Fast Line. For the latter option, a new batch of Pendolinos
is being procured - there might be an opportunity for an add-on order. He
might wish for a different brand name, rather than Pendolino - might I
suggest Flying Pigs.
