Default London to Watford Junction

Hi there,

Hopefully some of you can help me with my plight.

I commute daily from Ladywell (SE4) to Watford Junction which opens
all sort of ticket purchases. I am wondering if any of you guys and
girls would know of the best solution? Would like to keep my monthly
commuting bills to a minimum.

Over the last few months I've just had a month travelcard that is a
zone 1-6 + watford junction for £250.

This week I will be experimenting with a oyster zone 1-6 and payg
between Euston & Watford. It might mean a saving of £20 pm but I need
to confirm this is the case. Its difficult to get any more
information / quotes from the companies, they all look rather lost
when I ask them for advice.

Would be grateful if anyone who does a similar commute can advise on
the best deal.

Many thanks Marc

Hi Marc,

What is the exact price you pay for a month please? The reason I ask
is that a monthly ticket from Watford North to Zone R1256 is £243.10
or annual £2532. Even though this is further out, I believe it is a
little bit cheaper.

The alternative is whether you can go to Watford High St or Watford
Met. Watford High St to Zone R1256 is £213.60 monthly or £2224
annual. You can also buy a zone 1-8 travelcard (from a London
Underground office only) this does NOT include Watford Jct but it does
include Watford High St or Watford Met, and this is £215.10 monthly or
£2240 annual.

Note that Watford Junction is NOT in any of the zones.

As an alternative, Ladywell is in zone 3, so to try your idea you can
get a zones 1-3 season £109.10 monthly, £1136 annual (paper or Oyster)
and if Oyster combine this with oyster PAYG to Watford Jct.

If time wasn't an issue for you you could avoid zone 1 validity and
get a zone 2-8 +Watford Jct ticket for £162.90 monthly, £1696 annual.

Looking at the map, there are two (similarly awkward) routes to avoid
zone1 - go west from Ladywell to Clapham Junction, from where you can
get a direct Southern Service to Watford Junction (or get the more
frequent Silverlink/London Overground service and change at Willesden)
or alternatively go east on the DLR from Lewisham to Stratford, then
the London Overground from Stratford to Willesden.

Actually, a quicker way might be to go to East Croydon, from where you
can also get on the direct Southern service (mentioned above).

I'm sure you have your own personal situation, but can you consider
moving? Add £250 to whatever your rent is each month in SE4, and you
could get something pretty nice in Watford.

To save anyone else the hassle, I've looked at a Z1-3 travelcard and
then a season from Stonebridge Park to Watford Jct, and that was about
£240 per month (plus he would have to stop at Stonebridge Park).
