There used to be a single track that left the loop just south of Soho
Road station, and curved to the east. It was the Soho Pool Branch,
and went to Soho Pool Goods Yard. It didn't connect with the GW line,
though the goods yard was parallel (at some distance) to the north of
it.

Default Single track in Birmingham

Many years ago I remember participating in a big wind-up on a railtour
that passed both the Soho Pool line junction and the Aston Goods line
junction - the windup being that the two lines were connected beneath
the centre of Birmingham to a nuclear shelter under the post office
telecomms tower, explaining that it was omitted from rail atlases as
it was a secret. I shan't say which tour operator it was but there
were a lot of fooled ''ooo-arrr'' spotters from the Gloucester
area :o)
