Default Peak Rail

Can anyone say what the story is behind Peak Rail losing their site at
Buxton?

Brian.

That is absolutley correct

They were sold the site of the goods shed, residual Midland Station
area after the Spring Gardens relief road construction, and the
abutments on the other side of Bridge Street so that they had
everything they needed for a spring board into Ashwood Dale

They sold all but room for a one platform halt to Buxton Sping Water
and moved lock stock and barrel to Matlock - no doubt a good move in
terms of concentrating resources, but it removed all visibility, and
therefore the possibility of being taken seriously at the nrth end of
their intended route.

And re-used the track and pointwork.

They had actually run some Sunday services from Buxton, and a
halt had been built at Chee Dale (this was also re-used at
the Matlock end), but reportedly the safety authorities were unhappy
about any more frequent runs.

agreed with that, and with Charlie and Peter, I w s a director until
just before they moved out. AFAIAA they still own a part of the site,
but too small for any serious ops, have not been there for many years.
