How about Tescos? Do they take euros?
Thanks.

The Post Office has pretty good rates, but not all Post Offices offer a
foreign currency exchange service - check on their website: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/

Wherever Euros are accepted in this country, only the *notes* will be
accepted since British banks will not process the coins.
One of our customers (a tourist office) found this out the hard way. They
proclaimed "We take Euros" on their tills, and soon ended up with a drawer
full of Euro coins of various denominations which the banks didn't want to
know. Next visit, we had to reprogram the tills to display "We take Euro
banknotes".

I believe M&S and Debenhams accept euros. With regards to rail; the
Waterloo International ticket office will accept them and most of the
larger train stations have Bureau De Changes.
A little known fact is that BT Phoneboxes accept euro coins; the 1 euro
and 50 cent coins only at a fixed exchange rate of 60p / euro.
In London; Dixons, Tie Rack, Miss Selfridge and HMV take euros as far
as I know. | |

Tesco in Canterbury - as well as a significant number of other shops in
the city centre - take Euros.

But what of railways beyond NIR and Eurostar? The Caledonian Sleeper
service crews can take payment in Euro notes, though like much in the
railway as a whole, it is a pick and mix of attitudes/training.

Also some retail outlets are able to take foreign credit & debit cards
and process the payment through in the card holder's own currency.

Any Visa or Mastercard card will be accepted by any shop that does those
cards no matter what the country of issue. I think that is one of Visa's
merchant rules. Some of the point of sale machines also offer to bill in
the card holders currency instead of the locale's currency, but i've found
you generally are worse off, Visa's conversion rate is better than that
offered by the machine at 'point of sale'.
An Australian Debit card causes problems - it's a PIN card with out a
chip...
If you want currency entertainment , try using Scottish bank notes in
London :-). | |

Perhaps surprisingly for an sector where many people think the world
stopped in 1948 or 1968, I've notice an increasing number of stalls at
model railways shows with prices in euros.

Shops that accept euros in Canterbury usually use a rate of 1 euro to
the pound. So the already inflated prices for tourist tat are even more
expensive! But then people still pay with euros (mostly the French
schoolkids on day trips though)...
