| | Guest | Eurotunnel BoBoBo According to the latest TR UK, the refurbishment and uprating of
Eurotunnel BoBoBo from 5600 kW to 7000 kW stops at these 20 locos :
9801 9802 9803 9804 9808 9809 9810 9812 9814 9816 9817 9819 9820 9821
9825 9828 9832 9834 9835 9838
My question is, are all trains now to be worked with one of each
(5600+7000 kW) to average out performance, or are there still planned
to be used 5600+5600 5600+7000 and 7000+7000 combinations ?
And, assuming mixtures, the 2x5600 kw trains must surely be tourist
shuttles - so are these all ''sectorised'' now ?
Brian ?

Somehow, I knew this one was meant for me before I opened it!
I haven't heard anything about the upgrades being stopped- there was one
loco going off to Brush last week, I believe. There is certainly no sign of
these re-engineered locos being allocated to specific 'sectors', or even any
attempt to distribute them evenly. Yesterday's allocation had the majority
of the tourist trains with 2 x 7mW locos, and even the single-deck-only rake
19 had a 7mW and a 5.6mW on it.
The 91xx and 97xx series locos are dedicated to HGV, as they don't have the
chef-de-train panel needed for tourist work
One thing that observers may occasionally encounter is a 'back-to-back'
formation of spare electric locos being used to haul trains of new LWR or,
less frequently, ballast. The idea is to release Krupps for work in
non-energised possessions, and also reduce the smoke levels from
diesel-hauled heavy trains- a lesson learnt from our first re-railing
campaign.

As I recollect, within UIC B if the steps on the front bogie are removed.

Naturally :o)
Cheers for the response as ever.

Nor had I. And I have been following this project as part of my
monitoring of all VVVF technology European electric locos.
I still can't get an answer from Bombardier [who supply Brush with the
IGBT kit] if they are standard Traxx modules or some other customised
parts.

Does this mean in theory that they could run into St Pancras when the
CTRL is complete?

Why would you want to? A classier Thunderbird, perhaps?

Recovering a failed eurostar perhaps, or just as a general purpose
loco. Given their power I'd imagine they could come in very useful.

For exactly the same reasons that people want HST power cars to haul LH
stock. Because its different.

It took what 30 years for it to happen with b2b HST power cars - but it
did.

But I would doubt Eurotunnel has any to spare. They are somewhat
intensively used, 24/7.

If the shuttle service is working at the tiny fraction of capacity
claimed by some people posting here, how can that be true?
