On modern unit trains, and now fitted to some older are timing systems
which leave the lights on for 20-30 minutes to allow the train or depot
crew to dispose of the unit with light available. Other systems put the
train to "half light". The instructions can vary, and security issues
can be a factor, but in general lights are, or should be, turned off.
