| | Guest | MML - TL cross platform connection? I'm thinking of a few days in Brighton from Leicester,I'll be taking my
daughter in her wheelchair, so would prefer a same platform connection
if possible, between my MML train to the TL ongoing train - is there one
at either Luton or Bedford?
Thanks

It's more likely that a change of platform is necessary. Luton Airport
Parkway has good lifts. Don't change at Luton!

Unlikely at Bedford as I think the FCC (nee TL) trains almost always use
the easternmost two tracks and MML the westernmost two.
At Luton it's more complicated, and you may have some of the FCC trains
stopping at the same platform as MML, while others don't. To be on the
safe side why not pick an MML train that stops at Luton Airport Parkway;
it won't be any more likely you need to change platforms than at Luton,
and if you do it's a new station with lifts.

I'm not sure that you are right there Roland.
Down MML trains always use Platform 4,
Terminating FCC trains always use Platforms 1, 2 and 3.
Up MML trains usually use Platforms 2 and 3.
Platforms 2 and 3 are the island platform, so the MML train will almost
certainly come in there,
and there is a good chance that the FCC train will depart from there as
well.

Yes, that makes sense. I wasn't expecting many FCC trains to terminate
in platform 3, because that would be in the way of through MML trains.
But if platforms 2 and 3 are relatively interchangeable, and an island,
you'll make connections except when the FCC is departing from platform
1.

Unless the Down Fast is blocked (weekend engineering work etc.) or it's a
terminator such as the 16:08 from London.

And occasionally Platform 1

As others already commented, don't do this at Luton.
There is no lift access between platforms and as a general rule most
FCC/TL trains use platforms 1 2 3 and MML 4 and 5 and you would need to
use the bridge whichever way you do it.
Some FCC/TL trains do use the same platforms but this would be hard to
plan for and changes at short notice anyway. I use Luton station 2-3
times each weeks and know that for fact, especially on northbound
trains that you are using.
There is a passenger lift at Luton Airport Parkway. Here again you will
probably have to use the bridge via the lift for most 'connections'.

Thanks to everyone for the info, we'll change at Bedford I reckon.
Anyway, I was about to buy tickets via the MML website, but thought I'd
look up alternatives, and the hotel I had seen (Holiday Inn Brighton) is
in the Superbreak list, so we booked that via them, and looking at their
rail prices, they match (whether it's a coincidence or not), the
cheapest MML prices (£64 for 1 adult,1 Child), with the plus point that
we are not limited to the booked service as per the MML site, so we can
travel at any time, and any permitted route, which could be a bonus if
things go awry.
Ta
Alan.
