Passing through Penrhyndeudraeth this morning was a pickup truck with
the legend 'Rail Incident Response Unit' on the side. I suppose this is
what first goes to bridge bashes and things.

Edward..

Hey up Ross

Do you remember way back when in the days of BR, the occasion of the
BTP Chief Constable equipping all the main centres with large scale
incident vehicles with search lights, blues, sirens etc on the roof.

The one at Liverpool was reputedly displayed for inspection in the
short stay car park by the old Red Star Parcels Office, and then the
driver was told to take it round to Lord Nelson Street where a subway
beneath Rail House led to the BTP park up.

The order was challenged but in the end the inspector - or whatever
rank was calling the shots - insisted that the vehicle be put where he
had said.

The driver shrugged his shoulders did as he was told and left
everything above roof level behind him as the concrete beams supporting
the office block did their worst.

It surely can be told now

That's even better than the occasion last year when a Rail Replacement
double-decker bus took its roof off on a low railway bridge in Kent. ;-)

There seems to be one of these parked outside Salisbury station on a
regular basis - even when there's nothing obvious wrong with the
service .....
