Default PT to Giant's Causeway

I've done it. Train from Belfast to Portrush via Coleraine is easy. Then
I had to find the location of the infrequent service to Giant's
Causeway. I actually went to Bushmills and walked from there for fun.

Alternatively there is an "open-top" bus from Coleraine which might be
interesting. To be honest, though, I'd do the short trip from Portrush
instead.

I went this way last year - train from Belfast then choice of bus from
either Coleraine or Portrush (I took the bus out from Coleraine and
back to Portrush).

Bus from Coleraine is a more straightforward connection (modern bus
station at the train station) but I thought the views were better from
the bus along the coast to Portrush. Translink journey planner implied
we'd have to change buses at Bushmills but in fact the same bus ran
through to the Causeway.

I noticed that NIR had

A) Decrepit stock; and
B) (Apparently) exhausted infrastructure in some places (esp the
Portrush branch)

On the other hand they have

1) Friendly and helpful staff; and
2) Very reasonable fares.

Since then the new CAF units have arrived (tried these in May - much
better) so point A no longer applies. However, I did hear of a plan to
cut all rail services north of Ballymena - does any one know if this
remains a threat?
