Call me harsh but I don't see why anyone on this newsgroup should help
this guy in any way.

Most of us are rail enthusiasts and/or regular rail users and its
persistent fare evaders like him that cause our ticket prices to be
pushed up and the railways to lose money that they could spend on
investing in better services.

If it had been a once off accident, a misunderstanding of obscure
ticketing rules, a ticket office issuing error or something like that,
which this group has been asked for help on before, that's different,
but this is someone who deliberately and repeatedly defrauded the
railway companies.

Personally I think he deserves to have the book thrown at him and for
the railways to make as much money back off him as they possibly can.

Reminds me of an old joke...

Pom arrives in Oz. Immigratrion bloke says "do you have a criminal record?..."

Pom says "Oh, sorry - I didn't think you still needed one"

One sense-of-humour-failure later and Pom is promptly deported back to
England. Good job he didn't mention the sheep :/

You're harsh. This guy has admitted that what he has done is wrong, is
acceptant that he will get hit quite hard, but wants to know what to
expect. He's hardly asking a great deal. When I was 19, I was quite
reckless in a lot of ways, and I'm glad I never got myself into a fix
like this. If you don't take a great interest in the railways, it might
seem like an easy game to cheat the railways out of fares.

This guy will probably have the book thrown at him quite hard, and will
certainly have to pay for his mistake, but he does at least deserve to
know how the process works, and what sort of order of magnitude the
punishment will take.

Robin

Again, i appreciate your views guys.

last 2 days ive been feeling really down and dissapointed in myself
and i mean it. Already been cautioned twice at work for day dreaming
when im really just thinking of what may happen to my future. I bought
a ticket to get home last night and this morning armed with another
photo purchased a monthly from the right station. I know this isnt
exactly going to make a smiley man pop out of the ground and let me
off but i assure every one of you i wont be pulling a wreckless stunt
like this again.

Ive always held the upmost respect for the law and never once broken
it. For some subconcience reason i thought the trains didnt matter.
More of a challenge than a threat.

The whole reason i did this stunt was to try and save money so i could
could get a company name registered with an accountancy group. Now im
thinking if i get a record no bank on earth will want my business with
them.

Im just really screwed in all honesty and it takes something like this
to happen to give you a wakeup call.

If i get the book i get the book, if i dont i'll be a lucky lucky but
certainly hold respect for authority in the future.

Another thing, how hard would this be to keep from my parents? I mean
thats going to be the killer, i would do anything to keep them from
seeing me in a oourt. I pray i can do enough to stop that from
happening.

Anyway, thanks for your time with this guys, i do appreciate it
because i have no-one else who can advise me on this situation. It's
my problem and i dont want to trouble to many others with it.

One lucky offender was fined £750 together with £150 costs and the price
of the avoided fare in restitution [less than £2] at Luton Magistrates
Court this week for just one very short journey!

That's an outrageous inconsistency.

Alas only when it was our own penal colony. They changed things a few
years back, and now we no longer have a remote island which to send a
few undesirables to.
